This series features ants from my back yard: the 2mm variety residing under the Hills Hoist. I experimented photographing these ants with a Laowa super-macro lens that offers up to 5x magnification. While the quality is incredible, a tiny bump of the camera means major movement at the pointy end so stability was aided with a remote-controlled shutter. This also had the advantage of less disturbance of the ant activity. Using a completely manual lens to photograph tiny fast-moving insects was challenging, so ten reasonable images from around a hundred was deemed a great success. To suggest the urban setting, The ants were montaged with back yard details such as curly passion fruit vine and a garden seat’s woven fabric.
